Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Dr. Giannis Adamos is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He is also an Affiliated Professor at University of Thessaly, ATHENA Research Center and AMARANTHUS. He is an expert on human-centered design of transportation systems and infrastructure, sustainability and resilience of transport systems and logistics.

He graduated from the School of Engineering of University of Thessaly, Department of Civil Engineering in 2004. In 2006, he acquired his MSc diploma in Applied Engineering and Systems Simulation and, in 2016, his PhD in Transportation Engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering of University of Thessaly (UTH). Since 2006, he is a research associate at the Department of Civil Engineering (UTH).

From 2017 to 2021, he was an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering (UTH), from 2010 to 2015 he worked as a research associate at the Hellenic Institute of Transport of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas in Thessaloniki, Greece, and from 2008 to 2011, he was a Lecturer at the Technological Educational Institute of Larisa, Greece.

He has been involved in more than 40 European and national research projects. Recent projects are: “Mainstreaming integrated assessment models by embedding behavioural change and actor heterogeneity, and increasing their outreach to citizens, communities and industrial actors” – CHOICE”, HORIZON EUROPE, European Commission, 2023-2026, “The biodiversity nexus: transformative change for sustainability” – ΒΙΟΝΕΧΤ”, HORIZON EUROPE, European Commission, 2022-2026, “Empower citizens to join forces with public authorities in protecting the environment – ENFORCE”, HORIZON EUROPE, European Commission, 2024-2027, “Accelerating and mainstreaming transformative nature-based solutions to enhance resilience to climate change for diverse bio-geographical European regions – NATALIE”, HORIZON EUROPE, European Commission, 2023-2028, “Digital education modules 4 participatory planning – DEMo4PPL”, ERASMUS+, KA220-HED - Cooperation partnerships in higher education, European Commission, 2023-2025, “Mitigating transport-related air pollution in Europe – MI-TRAP”, HORIZON EUROPE, European Commission, 2023-2026.

Since 2021, he is the Project Manager of the HORIZON 2020 project ARSINOE (2021-2025), budget UTH: 977,500 €, total budget: 15,000,000 € and the Grant Holder Manager of the COST Action 20138: Network on water-energy-food nexus for a low-carbon economy in Europe and beyond – NEXUSNET (2021-2025). He’s also a postdoctoral researcher at the European projects: NEXOGENESIS (2021-2025), budget UTH: 290,005 €, total budget: 4,998,625 €, MAGO (2021-2024), budget UTH: 265,000 €, total budget: 2,495,500 €, SMARTEN (2021-2023), budget UTH: 54,475 €, total budget: 247,331 € and LOTUS (2019-2023), budget UTH: 189,531 €, total budget: 2,500,237 €.

Indicative completed projects that Dr. Adamos led or participated are: “ALLIANCE – Enhancing excellence and innovation capacity in sustainable transport interchanges”, HORIZON 2020, EC (2016-2018), “NOVELOG – New cooperative business models and guidance for sustainable city logistics”, HORIZON 2020, EC (2015-2018), “City-HUB”, 7th Framework Cooperation Work Programme, EC (2012-2015).

He has participated in numerous national and international scientific conferences and workshops, and he has in his record more than 100 scientific papers published in journals and conference proceedings and chapters in 6 books.
