Efthimios Demirakos is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the M.Sc. in International Shipping, Finance and Management. In the past, he served as a member of the Steering Committees of the MBA International and the M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance, and as a Deputy Director of the M.Sc. in International Shipping, Finance and Management. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the Hellenic Open University.
He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and an M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance from Manchester Business School. During his doctoral studies, he attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a visiting scholar. Furthermore, he holds a B.B.A. from the Athens University of Economics and Business, the CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) qualification, and a number of certificates from professional accountancy bodies. He is also a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE) [a professional designation offered by the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS)].
He has received numerous merit-based scholarships from several institutions and foundations, including Bodossaki Foundation, Propondis Foundation, The University of Manchester, Worldwide Universities Network, Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation, Stasinopoulos Foundation (Viohalco), and Chalkiopoulos Foundation. He has also received eight Teaching Excellence Awards from the Athens University of Economics and Business.
His research interests focus on equity valuation, market-based accounting, and forensic accounting. He has published research papers and book reviews in academic journals, such as the European Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, International Review of Financial Analysis, The International Journal of Accounting, Journal of Applied Accounting Research, and International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation. He has presented the results of his research at national and international academic conferences. He has a substantial number of publications in Greek professional magazines and has co-authored two textbooks.
Efthimios has significant teaching experience in financial and management accounting, accounting for business combinations, corporate valuation, internal and external auditing, forensic accounting and fraud examination, accounting information systems and internal controls, contemporary research methods in accounting, and public sector accounting.
He is a member of the American Accounting Association, the European Accounting Association, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and the Hellenic Finance and Accounting Association.
