Chrysi Laspidou is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Thessaly, specializing in "Environmental Engineering of Water Systems."
She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin (1993) and earned her doctorate from Northwestern University in the USA in 2003.
She is the Vice President of Research and Technology at Water Europe, based in Brussels, and a member of the Coordination Committee of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus Knowledge Action Network of the international network Future Earth. Additionally, she is a special expert for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
Since 2021, she has been coordinating the COST Action "NEXUSNET," which focuses on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus (2021-2025), and the European project "ARSINOE" with a budget of 15 million euros (2021-2025), aiming to promote climate-resilient regions through systemic solutions and innovations. The project includes 9 case studies with a strong emphasis on preserving the biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems. A recent research project she is involved in is the European project "BIONEXT," which focuses on achieving a sustainable future through biodiversity protection.
She has published over 60 articles in high-impact scientific journals and conferences and actively participates in numerous international fora focused on policies, the environment, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
