George Fakos is an economist, with a degree in Economics from the Athens University of Economics and Business. He holds an MA in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Essex, UK and a Certificate of Professional Education and Training in Tax Law (KEK - Athens University of Economics and Business). Since 1999 he has been working in the Tax Administration. He has served in taxpayer service and compliance units and as an auditor. Since 2014, he has held positions of responsibility in the Investigation and Public Revenue Assurance Service (Head of the Investigation and Audit Sub-Directorate), the Dispute Resolution Directorate (Head of the Review Sub-Directorate), the Direct Tax Enforcement Directorate (Head of the Directorate) and the General Directorate of Tax Administration (Head of the General Directorate). Since 6/2/2023 he has been Head of the Directorate General for Taxation. He has been involved in vocational training since 2016 at the Training Institute of the National Centre for Public Administration and Self-Government and at the Vocational Training and Lifelong Learning Center of the Athens University of Economics and Business.
