Business Strategy (Developing Strategic Thinking)

Short Overview
The objective of the course is to help managers, self-employed professionals and students interested in Strategy, to develop their capacity for strategic thinking not only in periods of growth but also in periods of crisis and recession. During the course we will focus on:

  2. How to analyze the external environment of the company (Structural Analysis of Industries, 5 Forces, PEST analysis, Strategic Groups, Trends, Scenario Planning etc)
  3. How to exploit and build resources and capabilities needed to achieve, maintain and improve the firm’s market positioning (strategy as the creation of dynamic capabilities, resource based view of the firm, value chain).
  4. How to direct the company into the future (mission/vision/strategic intent)
  5. how to craft and implement strategy, given several alternative strategic options (choices include: in which areas should we diversify, in which products/services should we expand, how we are going to implement this expansion, are we going to acquire, merge, form an alliance with another business).
  6. How to build and sustain competitive advantage and how to develop innovative strategies to change the rules of the game in our industry (competitive strategies, strategic innovation etc.).
  7. How to live and work with strategy by creating a strategy responsive organization. This can only be achieved by tuning systems, structures, and people to strategy, and by effectively managing the process of strategizing.
