Short Overview
The purpose of the eLearning Program seeks to provide professional oriented knowledge of accounting to lawyers and legal scholars. For this reason, it adopts a dual educational approach. The first educational dimension aims to provide practical knowledge of accounting which is useful for understanding the financial position and financial performance of an accounting entity. In this context, various accounting related topics are analysed such as: the financial statements (balance sheet, profit and loss statement, cash flow statement, etc.) and their content, basic accounting concepts (assets, liabilities, equity, income, expenses), accounting recognition rules and valuation approaches (initial recognition and valuation after recognition, depreciation, impairments, etc.), financial performance evaluation based on liquidity, profitability and long-term sustainability ratio analysis, differences in tax and accounting legislation in determining the annual economic profit, deferred taxation, etc. These issues are analysed using examples, exercises and case studies. The examination of the financial performance evaluation topics with ratio analysis is supported with the use of interactive educational software. The presentation of the aforementioned concepts is realised with reference to the Greek accounting regime for non-listed firms (Hellenic Accounting Standards, Law 4308/2014). The second educational dimension concerns the practical application of accounting in a lawyer’s daily professional routine such as accounting bookkeeping and VAT recording, costing and invoicing legal services. The presentation of these issue is anchored with practical examples and applications.

Program Value
In recent years, lawyers and jurists increasingly seek to enrich their legal background with accounting knowledge. This is because supporting a case in court or providing a legal advice (especially within the context of tax or commercial law) requires understanding accounting information concerning the financial performance and/or position of the client or the opponent. For example, how can a lawyer argue that a debtor's claim of financial incapacity is not justified based on his/her financial position, or how will a lawyer claim a client's reimbursement in the event of a tax dispute? Lawyers face such cases every day where knowledge of accounting concepts, such as income, expenditure, assets, profit, or loss, is necessary to argue. In response to the above needs, the "Accounting for Lawyers" eLearning Program is addressed to lawyers and legal scholars who wish to enrich their professional qualifications with knowledge of accounting and elements of tax legislation. It also provides necessary knowledge for costing and invoicing legal services. At the same time, the eLearning Program places great emphasis on the analysis of accounting statements using financial ratios. For this purpose, the eLearning Program uses educational interactive software that not only calculates but also interprets the financial ratios.
Special Technical Requirements
The evaluation is based on a final written assignment. Successful completion of the program and the award of a training certificate require a final grade of at least 50% in that assignment.
Learning Method Description
The program uses the eLearning educational method: learning takes place purely asynchronously (that is, on days and hours that serve the trainee, without mandatory attendance at a specific time or day), exclusively remotely (using a special educational platform via the internet from the trainee's area) and using digital educational tools that ensure effective and flexible individual self-learning. The program's training material becomes available at specific time periods, based on the training path followed, and then remains available on the training platform without restrictions throughout the duration of the program.
