Short Overview
The program aims to prepare successful adult educator candidates for the examination and certification processes for their inclusion in the adult educators register of EOPPEP (National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications & Vocational Guidance), their extra scoring on recruitment notices about educators in vocational training institutes, etc., and even their recruitment in educator sections of companies. Registration in the adult educators register is scored in announcements about education in adult education structures and is considered a principal qualification for teaching in private institutions that offer vocational training to adults participating in co-financed ESPA (NSRF) projects (educational in-corporation training programs). For the preparation of the program's structure, there have been taken into account the long-term experience of the educators in adult education and the EOPPEP examinations, the principles and the values of adult education, and experiential learning and innovative adult education techniques have been emphasized, with the target of success in EOPPEP examinations. The granted certificate of education provides extra points to educators in public vocational training institutes, second chance schools, and vocational training institute managers' selection.
Learning Goals
The program emphasizes experiential learning so that participants have the basic knowledge of adult education, which they will use in the planning and execution of their micro-teaching (a Skype meeting option is available). At the end of the program, the trainees will be able to:
- Describe the characteristics of adult learners and the learning conditions.
- Understand the adult learning theories.
- Use active learning techniques, choosing the right way according to their field.
- Use group dynamics in their teaching.
- Create a suitable learning environment by building teamwork, interaction, and communication.
- Contribute as adult educators to the support of socially vulnerable groups.
- Understand the role of the adult educator as a multidimensional one.
- Try, from their educator role, to improve themselves and to support their pupils on multiple levels.
- Plan and execute micro-teaching on their field of knowledge (Skype option is available).
- Participate successfully in the EOPPEP examinations for adult educators certification.
According to current legislation, the program fulfills the recognition conditions to EOPPEP for participation in this examination. The ones with the right to participate in the above examination are those who have attended a seminar from a public or private entity (law 4386/16, article 67).
Program Value
A wealth of research findings document the need to educate people in positive approaches through lifelong learning programs. Specifically, the program promotes the following benefits for those who attend it:
- The basic orientation is the systematic cultivation of communication between a trainer and adult trainers candidate, through experiential activities such as the organization and implementation of microteaching as a key component of the EOPPEP exams.
- Prospective adult educators themselves create new knowledge about their subject and its teaching in adult education through collaboration with their instructor.
- The trainers of the program are reduced to mentors with a pedagogical orientation. This means that they are there to listen to any need or concern that arises and to guide/encourage the prospective adult educator about the EOPPEP exams with a personalized approach.
- The program has been structured to fully meet the requirements of the EOPPEP exams. In this context, and after the contemporary trends of the time have been studied, the learning process shifts from theory and mechanistic learning to experiential learning and discovery learning. Focused on the learner prospective adult trainers gain experience through specially designed workshops, in which they are invited to participate and present a teaching in their subject.
- Finally, those who want to get to know the field of adult education and do not necessarily want to work in this field, do not come out as losers from their participation in the Program. Everything else; the activities of the Program have as their main drive the development of important social skills for the individual both as a complete personality and as a professional entity.
Evaluation Method And Final Grade Computation
The trainee's grade is based 60% on the two mandatory evaluation tasks of the thematic units of the program, the grade of which will be their average, and a written assignment as a final evaluation with a weight of 40%. Successful completion of the program and award of a training certificate requires a final grade of at least 50%.
Section Organization
In agreement with the Decision nr.65/24.05.2013 conference of the Board of Direction of EOPPEP, the certification exams process contains the above modules following the relative ministerial decision 2844/23-10-2012, according to which in the framework of the adult educator training program the following are recorded:
- Trainer training programs have a modular structure. Each self-contained section should include one or more modules of learning outcomes.
- Attendance of each module includes study of material and preparation of one or more assignments and a final examination as well as participation in face-to-face meetings, with the aim of continuous improvement/feedback of the trainee adult trainers.
- At least one of the modules will include experiential application of educational methods and techniques, in order for the adult trainers to be certified to become familiar with the basic processes of adult education, but at the same time to prepare for the process of evaluation and certification of their educational competence by EOPPEP.
