Short Overview
The program is designed to offer participants applied knowledge based on scientific research and the study of good practices in the management of tourism businesses and organizations. The philosophy and subject of tourism education expand the field of action and operation from tourism services to modern tourism experiences. The program focuses on the human-centered nature of tourism services, the relationships between destinations-tourism businesses, tourism businesses and customers, as well as tourism businesses and organizations among themselves. The program includes the logic of utilizing challenges in the new digital environment, using cutting-edge technologies as a catalyst for success in the international tourism market.
Learning Goals
The present program is designed for professionals, entrepreneurs, and executives in the tourism industry, individuals with experience in tourism and hospitality, as well as those who wish to pursue a career in the field by acquiring a more specialized knowledge and emphasizing the formation of tourist experiences. The aim of this program is to provide participants with the appropriate cognitive tools (e.g., management and marketing principles, service administration, etc.) and practical skills (e.g., ways of approaching visitors and tourists in the process of providing services, ways of collaborating with other businesses and organizations in the industry, etc.) so that they can design and shape tourist experiences through the knowledge they will gain. Consequently, after completing the program, participants will be able to:
  • Contribute to the effective management of tourism businesses and organizations, emphasizing the relationship between destinations, businesses, and visitors/tourists.
  • Specify the role and importance of marketing for the tourism industry.
  • Contribute to the value chain of tourism for the benefit of their professional and business operations.
  • Offer high-value tourist services for visitors and tourists.
  • Understand the role of tourism services in shaping tourist experiences.
  • Understand the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies into designing new tourist experiences.
Program Value
This educational program aims to familiarize participants with the practical and scientifically documented operation of tourism businesses and organizations, emphasizing how to manage tourist experiences in an extremely competitive environment at both business and destination levels with increasingly demanding customers who function as “digital natives” in the new generation of technologies and services.
Evaluation Method And Final Grade Computation
At the end of each module, the trainees are required to take remotely a corresponding written test, which will be in the form of multiple choice and/or short answer questions through the electronic platform, adhering to the schedule given. The score of previous modules is made known to the trainee before the deadline for submitting the test of the next module. Successful completion of the program and award of a training certificate requires a final grade of at least 50%.
Learning Method Description
The program uses the eLearning educational method: learning takes place purely asynchronously (that is, on days and hours that serve the trainee, without mandatory attendance at a specific time or day), exclusively remotely (using a special educational platform via the internet from the trainee's area) and using digital educational tools such as video lectures, interactive self-assessment exercises, and other elearning tools that ensure effective and flexible individual self-learning. The program's training material becomes available at specific time periods, based on the training path followed, and then remains available on the training platform without restrictions throughout the duration of the program.

Hours of asynchronous training: 40
Includes training hours (indicative) using an asynchronous distance learning (eLearning) platform.

Additional hours of work are included (indicative) and may include individual study, writing assignments, participation in field visits, participation in exams, etc.

The total hours include hours of synchronous and asynchronous training, as well as additional hours of employment.
Weeks of training: 8
Weeks in which activities of any kind are planned are included.
Vocational Education and Training Certificate
Trainees who successfully complete the program are granted a Vocational Education and Training Certificate of the Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the Athens University of Economics and Business, which is accompanied by a Supplement to the Certificate, detailing the subject of the program, the thematic units attended by the trainee , as well as the training methodology followed.
Target Audience
The program is aimed at executives, employees, entrepreneurs as well as self-employed individuals in the tourism and hospitality industry. More specifically, the program is aimed at those active in the sectors of accommodation, catering, transport, travel agencies, conferences and events, in archaeological sites, museums, attractions, theme parks, visitor information centers (VICs), destination management and marketing organizations (DMOs). etc. The use of concepts, terms, examples and good practices makes the program also interesting for sectors indirectly related to tourism, such as the wider area of ??telecommunications and transport in a destination, digital marketing agencies that handle accounts of hotel units and others accommodation, etc.
Prerequisite Knowledge
  • High school diploma.
  • Basic computer skills (word processing, worksheets, browsers, e-mail).

Communication between trainers and trainees is purely asynchronous, via e-mails and/or personal messages through the training platform.
Cost
ELEARNING: 480€
Installements
The total amount of tuition is €480 and is paid in two installments. The first installment, of €250, is paid as an advance before the start of the courses, to secure the place, and the second, of €230, is paid before the program is half completed. In the event of a discount, the above amounts are reduced proportionally. Especially in the case of a 20% discount, the above amounts are €384 (total amount), €250 (first installment - ??advance payment) and €134 (second installment).
Trainees are informed of the installment amounts and related deadlines via email upon their acceptance into the program.
