Short Overview

The program is organized under the auspices of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN) and the Research Laboratory for Socioeconomic and Environmental Sustainability (ReSEES) of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), with the support and collaboration of PwC Greece. The program provides the fundamental theoretical and practical background for individuals who work or wish to work in the field of Sustainable Development in a way that enables them to integrate the relevant principles of Sustainable Development into their daily decision-making process.

The program focuses on the following thematic areas:

  • The policy framework for transitioning to sustainability.
  • Corporate Sustainability Reporting - ESG Criteria (Environment, Social, Governance).
  • Selected issues in the fields of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Biodiversity.
  • The program provides all the necessary tools for a comprehensive understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals and the integration of environmental, social, and governance practices into their daily business activities.
Learning Goals
Successful completion of the program offers the following:
  • Understanding of the fundamental concepts and the model of sustainable development, as well as its practical significance for the environment, the economy, businesses, and society, through a holistic approach.
  • Provision of specific techno-economic knowledge and tools for each axis of sustainable development as governed by the principles of the circular economy and "leaving no one behind" expressed through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, the European Green Deal (EGD), the unified European Climate Law, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and the new framework it introduces for the economy and production.
  • Understanding and critical handling of proposed climate policies at European and global levels in relation to broader development goals and the constraints imposed by economic, social, and political variables.
  • Familiarity with modern tools required for strategic planning and actions in the context of sustainable development for both private and public entities, as well as partnerships or conflicts that arise during the implementation of environmental and development policies. Specifically, participants analyze the development of implementation plans for the six sustainable axes governed by the principles of circularity and leaving no one behind.
  • Understanding and familiarity with new sustainable management and decision-making models that ensure access to funding for the implementation of the European Green Deal and, in general, technical tools for the transition to sustainability.
